Description

The Oxford Spanish Dictionary is the most widely used and authoritative Spanish bilingual dictionary available. It's used as a key reference tool by language professionals with over 300,000 words and phrases, and half a million translations, and packed full of grammatical and usage information for both languages.

This latest version features thousands of new words and updated translations, covering subjects from politics and industry to technology and ecology. Developed through consultation with academic advisors, its editors have used the latest technology to search millions of words of web-based text identifying the most recent additions and changes in usage to Spanish and English.

A search tool

Featuring autocomplete search to help you find words quickly by seeing search predictions that might be similar to the search terms you're typing. The search also allows various search options as:

* A ‘fuzzy filter’ when you are not sure of the correct spelling of a word * A ‘keyword’ search for finding key words within compound words * A wild card search function ('*' or '?') which can replace a letter or entire parts of a word.

A learning tool

The dictionary app includes a number of features which help you to grow your vocabulary further: * A ‘Favorites’ feature allows you to create your own categories and lists of words from the extensive library, which includes all cross-curriculum words * History list to help you easily review the last visited words. * See words in context with example sentences

No country for PC's by Ruy

Won't remember the previous language direction; defaults to English to Spanish. Won't look up for the word until one of the given options is selected. It screams "made for telephone screen" which makes sense since it was made for a telephone screen. Feels awkward on a PC. It does have sharper images. It does have better text distribution Don't worry, us old timers will die soon and the world will belong to the thumb-hands people

Really good but tweaks would make it great by Mary

This is a really, really good reference, but there are a couple of things I would like to see. 1) The ability to set the default to Spanish/English or English/Spanish translation. The default is English Spanish. 2) It has a live tile option, but it doesn't do anything. It would be nice if the live tile would flip through words that you've recently looked up to help with memorization.

    Good app by Unknown

The app is clearly designed for a touch screen, so it works very well on a Surface. I am learning Spanish, and this app is an excellent tool to help me learn. It has many, many words that I do not find in most dictionaries. What is even better is that I can type in part of a word, and it will show all of the possible words that start with what I typed. It is a great feature for finding related words (such as regalo and regalar). The app's only downfall is that it will not start unless you have an internet connection. This is difficult because I do not always have one. It doesn't seem to work to start it once and leave it open forever, either. This appears to only be for verification purposes, as it does not need internet to look up words. If I wasn't tethered to the internet, this would easily get 5 stars. UPDATE: The internet-only issue was solved. I had downloaded the trial version, then bought the app afterwards. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app, and now it works. 5 stars.
